Major research projects that are under active investigation in the ReyLab focus on finding hidden information in complex physiologic dynamics. Over the past two decades, the group helped pioneer the application of fractals to physiology and medicine, such as the fractal nature of normal cardiac electrophysiology and in the analysis of coding vs. noncoding DNA nucleotide sequences. Current work focuses on the breakdown of long-range (fractal) correlations and loss of nonlinear complexity that accompanies aging and a wide range of disease processes.
